Default 2002-03 Es300 Owners needed!

Considering my '97 Es300 has about 215K, i'm thinking it's time
to retire her now...

But on the other hand, my local no-name dealership has a 2002 Es300 with 123K
for $7,950, fully loaded with the toys...

I'd like some insight from the owners of these year models. How are these years compared to
the 5th generation es300s? I hear they have a different motor and tranny...

Is it worth buying this year es300?

Do you guys think this car is priced right?

In general, I'd always avoid first-year redesigned models for reliability.

Make sure you test drive a few 4ES to get a feel for its drive-by-wire throttle and the transmission shifts.

Thanks for your reply.
What were the reliAbility issues of these years?

I'm aware that these years had a rather "unique" shifting behaviors, but didn't lexus have a fix for this?

Can you explain what 'drive-by-wire' throttle is?

I'm going to test drive it either today or tomorrow. Ill let you guys know it goes.

If everything checks out well, is $7,950 a fair deal? I will try to negotiate that price.

i have a 02 es300. very reliable. my uncle has an 05 es330. only noticeable different is the speed. that extra .3 liters makes a big difference. but other than that , the cars are very similar. common problem among these cars are the catalytic converters tend to go out very quick. Also, its almost impossible to find aftermarket performance parts for these cars lol. these cars are very very smooth. I highly recommend it.

Yeah, just got back from the dealership that had an '02 Es300 with 123K
They offered me $7,500 for it but it had developing rust bubbles on the wheel wells.
Other than that, the car is mint... BUT I HATE RUST.

So I turned my head and walked away.

Just gata keep on looking and be patient, i'll find one soon

Good decision, rust is never easy to deal with.
