aftermarket radio
so i decided to change out the head unit while i install my amp and speakers..i was just wondering because ive seen many ppl have had problems with engine noise when using the metra harness....can i avoid this problem by grounding the radio to the chassis? and do i need to keep my stock amp or since im getting an aftermarket one can i get rid of it? i heard that the deck is powered by the amp so im guessing i need to keep it to maintain functionality of the radio to avoid additional wiring headaches.

You will need to bypass the factory amp. I had my radio installed only because they offered free installation when I purchased it. They put in noise suppressors and told me it was the best they could do. I drove it like that for about a week before it drove me absolutely insane. I found a wiring diagram online and cut each individual speaker wire coming out of the amp (amp to the speaker) and wired them directly into the speaker wires coming out of the head unit. It eliminated the noise completely. As for the factory subwoofer, i dont remember having to even mess with it. It seems to work fine. Doesnt whine like the speakers did.
