Default 93 es300 air bag light

my air bag light is on. did a search on these forums and found a few references to the airbag module possibly being culprit (I think it's under the hood...somewhere).

I went to my mechanic but he said these OBDI models are really hard to pin down reason for that light.

any other possibilities? should I just get a used module for cheap and roll the dice?

The FSM airbag chapter is 94 pages long, full of dire warnings about accidental deployment, and is VERY COMPLEX, to me, electrically anyway. Proceed with caution! The control module is under the consol storage compartment.

hmmmm, another solution is to remove the air bag warning light bulb. kind of like turning up the radio to fix a squeak, squeal or clunk noise.

might also explain why mechanic told me it was so hard to troubleshoot with OBDI set up.

DB, is "console storage compartment" the space under the armrest?

anyone have any idea what Lexus/Toyota charges to diagnose an airbag problem?

Yes, and the manual shows complete consol removal to access it. There are 2 sensors that look to be hidden R & L front wheel wells, accessable by removing the inner plastic wheel well liners. There's a large junction box on the floor, driver footwell area. If it was me, I'd remove or tape over the bulb...

Your mechanic would be wrong, it is easy to read the stored SRS codes. You should seriously consider getting yourself the factory service manual, it tells you exactly how to do this procedure. By far the most common reason for the airbag light being on is at one point the bulb was burnt out, or the car was turned on without the cluster connected.
