I have a 98 es300 in great condition except yesterday it started surging at lower rpms. It's like it is miss firing. So I change the spark plugs and wires last night but still does it. Can anyone tell me if its the transmission or should I be looking at something else? The car drives great , accelerates perfect just at low rpms. No matter if its 40mph or 80 mph it starts to surge (miss) under 3k rpm.

Is there a CEL? If there is none, I would replace the TPS.

Thank you for the welcome. No CEL but guess I should have said that the car has 220k miles on it. Does that change anything?

It's probably obvious that when you have older car's with high miles, things break. Having 220k doesn't change much. It still could be your TPS. That's were I would start anyway. There are plenty of ES's at the junk yard. I would grab a TPS off of one and replace it with a used one. If you want peace of mind, get a new one. They aren't that expensive.
