Default Transmission question: 2003 ES300

Hi guys,

So I have an '03 ES300 with about 114K miles. Runs nice and smooth. Every once in a while the transmission does something odd, and I am struggling with how to describe it.

It definitely IS NOT a slip. It feels more like it waits too long to shift, and then suddenly downshifts harshly. A slight kick or "buck" can be detected when this happens. It only seems to happen in the lower gears - 1 through 3. I don't think I've ever felt this occur in gears 4 or 5.

I've heard that the ES300 has a lazy tranny, and this could be related to that. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there cause for concern?

Let me know if I haven't described it very well and I'll try to elaborate.

Thanks.

Sounds normal for that model's shift patterns to me...I also had a 2003.

It's actually very common with these models it's a shift hesitation nothing to be worried about these models were made to have a smooth shifting process like if you were to hop on a freeway while your building up speed you barely feel the tranny shift like a lot of other cars so basically wen your going at low speeds constantly the car is waiting for you to go faster and the tranny hesitates to shift up a gear but instead it down shifts because your still going at a low speed
