Starter rebuild for a DIYer- 2003 es300
Newbie and couldn't find in search.
Hello *,
Other Toyotas I've owned, I could just replace 'starter contact' to fix the starter. I called the Lexus dealer and they say they stopped making starters with plungers so they just replace the starters now.
Can the starter be fixed by DIYer?
I have the starter out already.

I'm pretty sure there isn't any 'plunger/contact' mechanism. Just wondering if there is a simple refurb fix for these types of starters.
Anyone have a link to a writeup that someone might have done?

Assuming the commutator and armature are good, you can replace the solenoid, which contains the contacts. Part number is 28226-28051 about $75 from the dealer. Less from aftermarket places.

I have not opened it up yet, but I can definitely see that it's different from other starters...the battery connections (where the contacts would be) are in a small housing connected to the motor.
