New Timing Belt/Tune Up?
hi. i have a 2000 es300 with 89K miles on it.
my mechanic is suggesting new timing belt/water pump and a tune up with new spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and injection cleaning.
the car has been running fine forever (but very few miles every year) but it's starting to give me trouble so i am wondering if i should do these things before i am stranded on the highway somewhere.
when (miles/age) do people do these jobs?
thanks.

Usually Timing belt and water pump is done around the 7-8 year/ 100K mile mark. Your due for both, but it won't make the car run any better, as its just preventative maintenance.
Spark plugs won't make much of a difference IMO, and at only 89K, I'd leave that till last.
Run some fuel injector cleaner through a couple of tanks of gas, clean the throttle body/ MAF, and change the air filter to see if it runs better.

the mechanic says $500 for timing belt/water pump and $650 if i also do the tune up. i guess it's a little cheaper than doing them separately. but i don't know if i should or just do the timing belt.
thanks.
