Default New Member! Need advice/help please!

Alright so I'm a brand new owner of a 1998 Lexus ES300. And I'm loving every mile of it. The car runs beautifull. But I would like to lower the car. I've asked around and did much research. But I can not get the answer I'm looking for. So if I lower the car (i would be doing this with lowering springs) I would need to stiffen my suspension. Because the springs will drop the car to just over the tire. And I don't want the body slamming on the tires. So how do I go about stiffening the suspension and what else will I need to buy besides lowering springs to complete this task. Thanks so much guys and I'm glad to be a part of Club Lexus!

I have the same model and year, so here is what I know from this forum.

You can either use lowering springs + struts, or you can get coilovers.

Lowering springs are shorter in length and they are much stiffer than stock. This in turn puts more work on your gas struts. You will need Takico Blues or KYB struts to complement your new springs. In addition, one of the most common suspension items to wear out on these cars is the strut mount. You will need all new mounts and other little rubber insulators, since they are mostly likely old and brittle. Keep in mind that you don't want springs that lower more than an inch, because those will destroy even your newer struts, due to shorter piston travel.

The other option is coilovers. There are two brands that I know of - KSport and BC Racing. The choice is yours, but keep in mind that your ride will be stiffer with coilovers. One benefit is that eveyrthing comes as a package, so you just swap out old for new and set the height.

Personally, I will be going with Takico Blue Struts, H&R Lowering Springs (1" drop), and Toyota mounting hardware.

Thank you for your reply! I knew coilovers was te easier route. They're jst so expensive. But worth it. It seems. Where do you manage to find these parts? I only found the struts you said and a couple sets of coilovers and only two sets of lowering springs. But thank you very much! It helped a lot.
