Upper and lower oil pan
Would you share with me your experience of replacing both oil pans? I bought used ones for $50.00. and was kind of surprised of cost of labor. Difficulty...timing...labor cost...everything...
Thank you!!!
Thank you!!!

Download this service manual for the 1997 model year (the same as yours).

The oil pan removal steps are in the Lubrication section.

It is fairly difficult and time consuming. I had just taken mine off and reinstalled on my 2001 es300. It includes taking the alternator and a/c compressor off. The a/c compressor doesnt need to be disconnected but needs to be taken off of the mounting bracket so you can take the mounting bracket off. The bracket hugs underneath a lip of the upper pan. After that, you need to take off the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold pipe (front and back) and disconnect at the cat converter. Drop the lower oil pan, take off the oil pick up tube and remove the oil level sensor. There are a total of 17 bolts and 2 nuts to be removed from the pan.
Putting on the new one or reinstalling, make sure the surfaces of the pan and the block or clean. Use RTV black around the inside X side of the upper pan to a little more than halfway toward the flywheel. Use RTV grey around the outside all the way around and meet up with the black. Put all the bolts and nuts securing the pan and tighten. Dont remember the torque specs on it but make sure they are torqued.
