Default Rear main seal

Looks like rear main is leaking. Should I tackle this myself, anyone here done this before?

if you can pull out an engine, go for it.

when you pull it out, make sure you dont take all the sensors off the engine, rather unplug the ecu from behind the glovebox and pull the plugs through to the engine bay. also use impact when taking off the exhaust pipes. make sure you have high temp rtv on hand as well.

have fun.

What year and model are you talking about? Did my 2001 es300 a few monts ago by the local Lexus dealer. Transmission needs to come out, engine does not.

Do a search, you'll find my post, comments and costs on this repair.

First try Auto-RX, it's worked for many people in curing the rear main seal leak. It's not a guaranteed fix, but I think it's worth a shot.

Tranny definitely needs to come out, that's what I've read so far. I've tried Bar's rear main leak seal but so far it hasn't worked and I hate oil stains on my driveway.

Anyone try auto-rx with this. The place said it was the oil pan, but when i looked it seemed to be the rear main seal

Even if it does work, it will only be temporary. Our Lexus has ~180,000 on it and I'm sure old seal is pretty much disintegrated in there.

Try the AutoRX, if it's a rear main seal, it's worked for many people. It doesn't cost much, so what's the harm. lol
