Default P0446

1st post fellas. Just got my fiancé a 99 es300. 108k . Aside from strut mounts all I have to adress is the p0446 code. Word on the streets is charcoal/vapor canister is the true culprit. I already troubleshot the small stuff such as gas cap,maf,and vac leaks. Any suggestions on other stuff before I drop 300$ on a canister??????

Get a smoke test done before you spend money on a cannister. Could be a vacuume leak, or one of several VSVs in the evaporative system. In my case it was a VSV

So my plan is to replace the vsv on the canister first. Read up on the tsb. Any 1 know the proper part # for that vsv. There is some confusion between the one on the canister itself and the ones in the engine compartment. Of course Lexus says that you have to purchase the entire canister assembally and the vsv alone is not available. I know that's a bunch of BS. Again all I need is the vsv on canister. Any help with that part #

the vsv is 20$ new or so on www.rockauto.com, or around that for a used one off ebay.

It's common on these cars the VSV failing. If there is no vacuum leak, I would change the VSV.

Understood. I just need the correct part# for the vsv located at the canister. Is it the dorman 911-605?????? Don't want to order it and find out its the one in the engine compartment.

Call the dealer, tell them you want the VSV that goes on top of the canister and ask for the part number. Or you can go to rock auto and just search.

Hi guys

What is the VSV? I'm having the same error code and can't believe how much the vapor canister costs. I can't find one used and I need to get my car to pass smog. My car has 210K on it and I know this is only the beginning of many repairs but I love my Lexus. I can't afford a new or newer Lexus due to my income changing. After you replaced the VSV, have you had any other problem with the canister. My car passed smog but couldn't get the certificate because there wasn't any drive test in the computer on my car. We unplugged the battery to turn off the light and went to the smog place. Engine light is back on now so I'm stuck. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Refer to my Reply to the original poster. Get a smoke test done and you'll identify the problem. Otherwise you'll be chasing your tail and buying parts at random

VSV = vacuume switching valve
