I feel ya about the cracking valve cover. I did that once too because I tightened the corner too much before any other bolts were tightened, and once i finished tightening the rest, the corner of the valve cover cracked haha. I felt like an idiot doing that and learned always to slowly tighten things and do the crisscross pattern.

and you are definitely right about the washers. i urge people to get new ones every time they do their valve covers. doubling up helps, and having fresh ones is even better!
Did you learn this before or after you became an "Engineer". Sorry I couldn't resist!

Default Leaking oil from several places

Please help. I took my car In for a routine oil change. After oil change I noticed the smell of burning oil. I assumed oil spilled during the change and that it would eventually dissipate. However, the smell got stronger so I took my car back to be checked. I was told that the car needed valve cover gaskets, cam seals and spark Plug Seals....After valve cover gaskets were replaced the car Is still leaking oil in the same place. Now I am told that the gasket needs to be replaced between the transmission and the engine and that oil is leaking from oil pan.

The valve cover gasket repair took 3 days and the car now runs roughly and noisy. What could have happen?

Wash the engine bay so its clean and residual oil deposits are removed so you can see where the oil is leaking from.

Did the smell start only after they changed the oil? If so, they probably didn't tighten down the oil filter enough or over-tightened it causing it to leak all over the engine and oil pan. Happened to me, but I caught it at the first startup.

Rough running could be as simple as a vacuum hose that they forgot to reinstall correctly when removing the plenum.

Sorry to hear you problems. I'd be super pissed right now. They diagnose as one thing, then fix it and the problem still exist? And then on top of it, it now runs worse!? I'd be really, really pissed.

From reading this, i'm starting to question what they really did to begin with, but worse case scenario they may have installed the timing belt incorrectly. Any new check engine lights on?

To change the cam seals they have to remove the timing belt.

You absolutely need to haggle any future work with this issue as being almost free in labor excluding new parts. I would push and push this issue. Also, they really need to fix the poor running. Did it do this the second you drove away? If so Lesson learned is immediately return it to them saying it's not right.
