Default starter relay and trouble starting

I have a 2003 ES300 , How do you get the starter relay out of the shocket . I see there is a clip on the side, I spread it and pull the relay straight up, but it does not move . I am afraid of cracking the relay , I am trying to test it as my car will not start , not sure if it is that or the starter yet the, battery is good , yesterday would not start , tried today it started , shut off , now will not start again, driving me nuts. Any help appreciated . DWB

When you try to start the car does it make a click noise (not repeated clicking like a low battery but a single click when you turn the key to start)? If so then the relay is probably okay and the starter is more likely the culprit. If there is no click noise when it fails to start then it might be the relay.

Default relay

I just put a new battery in and still not starting! Yes I had a friend turn the ingnition and there is a click right at the relay . So this would be normal then ? ( click) I just got off the phone and ordered a new relay So you think it may be the starter ! Now I will be digging deeper . Ha , thanks for your help . Dean
