Can anybody out there in the Lexus kingdom give me any pointers in replacing my sunroof motor on my 93 es300? Its starting to make some funky noises.
Thanx All

Try to lubricate the sunroof rail. Spay 3in1 Lithium or other.
It made mine much smoother and less noise.

If you have to change the motor, don't move the roof at all,you may throw the timing of the roof off.
Now to get to removing the motor:
A) Remove the visors from both sides.
B) Remove the over head light/ sunroof switch.
C) Remove the front piller cover. (They just pop off)
D) To take the motor out, you will need a 10mm - 1/4 drive and an extension. Be careful pulling he headliner down to get the bolts and the plugs. The bolt on the right will be the hardest one.
Like I said be careful with the headliner they crack easily.

I will have to give it a try. Mine isn't very smooth and it makes noise, but it still works most the time. Nothing like new cars though

WD-40 is a solvent and not a lubricant, I'd use Lithium grease very lightly.

Turtle54,

When I had to replace the sunroof motor on a customer's '93 ES300, I followed this procedure:

1) Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2) Remove garnishes, visors, and assist grips, as necessary to access the front headliner. (refer to ES300 head liner diagram

3) Pull down front headliner to access sunroof drive motor.

4) Disconnect the drive motor connector.

5) Remove the bolts and drive motor.

6) If necessary, remove the screw and cam plate cover.

To Install:

1) Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

*If removed, install the cam plate cover by turning the drive gear to align the point marks.

2) Ensure the drive gear and sliding roof position are matched.

It's really not too difficult of a job. You should be able to complete it within a few hours (or less)
