Question great gas mileage

I know thi is random, but this weekend i drove in my 2001 es300 with 163k miles from buffalo new york, to pittsburgh pennsylvania and trenton new jersey. Going about 80 mph the whole way with a/c on, got about 29.8 mpg on the way there and 28.2 mpg on the way back, i was amazed. I didn't think this car was capable of that kind of mileage new, let alone 11 years and 163k miles later. I have two rust spots developing and debated getting them fixed, but after this i definitely am cause i plan on keeping this thing for a while

I have a 97 ES300 with 390,000 km (244,000 miles). I am still on the original alternator, starter, PS pump, engine, transmission, etc....

On purely highway driving, not exceeding 120 km/hr (75 mph), with AC off, and 87 octane gas, I achieved 7.8-7.9L / 100 km (29.8-30.1 mpg). I can probably achieve better fuel consumption if I go at 100-110 km/hr (65 mph) but I would be slowing the flow of traffic as everyone in Toronto drives +120 km/hr on the highway. Speed limit is 100 km/hr.

Many variables.....
- tire pressure
- driving habits
- engine and transmission condition
- brake dragging?
- etc...

Driving habit? I tried stepping on the acc. and the brake as light as possible, but still got 24mpg.
Brake dragging? what does that mean?
Tire pressure? I dnt think so..

I got about 34MPG from LA to Vegas with:
- 87 gas.
- 41PSI tire (51PSI max pressure at max load.)
- No head or tail wind.
- Avg speed : 75MPH with cruise control on.
- Driving style - semi spirited.
- Air temp ~100F.
- AC on 50% of the time (off when uphill, on when downhill.)

The sticker by the door calls for (off the top of my head) 32psi for my 97 ES300, and 29psi for my 06 ES330. 41psi is over inflated....

It's really just a suggested number. You can have whatever amount of air pressure you want. Having 41 will probably eat up the center of his tires though from over inflation.

Over tire pressure inflation not only eats up tires....it is also DANGEROUS. Because of the smaller surface contact area, the vehicle now has less braking and handling capabilities....potentially resulting in accidents, injuries, or even worst......
