Amsoil ATF for Power Steering & Auto Tranny
2002 Lexus ES300 with 70K Miles
I've read conflicting things, any real world experience positive or negative. I was planning on replacing power steering fluid and transmission fluid with AMSOIL ATF. Looking for first hand knowledge of pros & cons.

I don't have any direct experience with Amsoil ATF, sorry. But Amsoil products are generally very high quality, so if you don't mind the extra cost then I don't see how you could go wrong.

Many fluids meet the minimum recommend specifications.
Nothing special about the power steering fluid for the car - many go forever with the original fluid -- use the recommended fluid if you chose to change it.
Same goes with the transmission - we use the factory fluid. The fluid is readily available and is competitively priced. If you do a simple fluid change w/o dropping the pan you change out about 4 quarts of the 9 quarts in the trans. The dealers just refresh 4 quarts at the 90k service.
I do the simple 4 quart oil change using the factory fluid around 75k and then I do it again at the next engine oil change - so I change out most of the fluid.
The fluid from Lexus is about 4.50 per quart - my local mechanic charges me less than $25 to do the trans change - I supply the Toyota fluid

I use nothing but Amsoil synthetics in my 2005 ES...have used it for 6+ years now (including my previous vehicles). The Amsoil ATF is perfect for both the tranny & power steering fluid. You have no worries as it is compatible with Toyota Type IV ATF.
