Default Es300 1995 rough idle

A few days ago as I was switching lanes my car decided to lose all power even tho I was pressing the throttle And died(turned off) as I tried to start it again it would start then go into a rough idle then die again. Today I start my car in my driveway it starts fine a quick trip around the block car does the same thing. What can be my problem?

Charging system possibly needs attention. Bad battery, alternator or a combination.

Never rule out the early 90's "leaking capacitors problem" with Toyota ECU's.

A 1995 car might have the problem. Essentially, the early 90's Toyota motherboards had capacitors which would swell and leak over time.

Capacitor electrolyte would seep into the motherboard and cause all sorts of random issues which are impossible to diagnose because the ECU can't diagnose itself.

In my case I had a misfire due to the ECU having electrolyte eat into the spark firing process.

The engine would start fine, it would run fine until I came to a stop in traffic and then ra misfire would start happening... and it would get worse and worse.

When I removed my ECU and opened it up, I could visibly see the acidic looking damage to parts of the circuitry.

I bought a 2nd hand replacement ECU for $200, and the problem was fixed.

I also bought a replacement capacitor kit for my ECU, and I repaired my original ECU with new and modern capacitors.

Your car is a 1993?

Correct, hence I needed a 3VZ-FE ECU to verify the capacitor problem.

I'm not suggesting the leaking ECU capacitor problem is DEFINITELY the cause of the OP's issues...but it it's a known issue on the very early 1990's Toyotas.

Perhaps it had been remedied by 1995 in the first of the 1MZ-FE ECU motherboards?

Interestingly, Jay leno put me on to the issue. I was going nuts trying to solve the source of 3VZ-FE misfire. I was throwing loads of brand-new OEM parts at the engine bay.

Jay Leno made a video in which he talked about his 1991 McLaren F1 road car which had the same "undiagnosable" ECU problem.

His team identified leaking capacitors on the Bosch ECU motherboard for the V12 engine.
