Dexron II or Dexron III
Hey guys, I am doing a drain and refill of my tranny fluid, and the tranny dip stick says Dexron II on it? I cant find a straight answer on what do use, but will dexron III work? does lexus sell Dexron III or can I use an off the shelf brand at an auto parts store. Any advice would be great. thanks!!

Use a Dexron III or compatible fluid (read the label), Dexron II was superseded long ago by III. Do not use Dexron VI fluid it is formulated differently and not recommended for your car. Vavoline Maxlife is a good fluid for the money.

Not really, good fluid is good fluid. There are formulations with stop leak and other additives designed to mask problems in older transmissions. But unless you are having shift problems or other issues, just use a high quality DexIII compatible. A fully synthetic is of course best, but expensive.

You can get the correct fluid from the dealer for $4.50 Quart and they always give me the crush ring for the drain.
My 2000 es300 uses 4 quarts for a simple fluid drop and fill.
