My son's 96 ES300 will not shift out of first when the car is cold. After he drives it for a few miles, it will begin to shift normally. Until then, the RPMs skyrocket and since he is stuck in first, he can't accelerate – kind of dangerous. This has been going on for a year ever since I had the shift solenoid replaced so it would pass emissions inspections. It passed inspections; however, right after it was replaced we started having problems with it not shifting from first to second. We didn't have ANY trouble prior to the shift solenoid replacement. The mechanic (dealer) said it was a coincidence with the shift solenoid replacement. Any thoughts...recommendations? Someone told me to check the fuses. I didn’t know there was a shifting fuse.
