Hey guys i have a 2000 lexus es300 i swiped by old gray interior for a black interior. My only problem is i have gray headrests for my driverside and passenger seats and i want to paint the leather black with spraypaint. How would i go through with without damaging the leather.

Ummm, for starters you don't use spray paint.

Some people have done it with SEM, but i wouldn't touch leather or any interior pieces with that. Nothing beats the real deal.

Regardless, go to a body shop to do it, they have products out there for this purpose. My buddy did his M3 interior leather from tan to black and it turned out great.

Another option would be to search up & down at 'pull yourself' junkyards & eBay.

Someone on this site seriously said they want to spray paint their headrests?!?!?? Ok that almost makes me embarrassed for owning a older ES300 if were at that point already lol.

As mentioned plleeeeeaasseee do it the right way and find a set on ebay or car-parts.com or some sort of auto junk yard. There not going to be thattt expensive.

I have seen these 3rd generation ES Lexus at the junkyard before. Maybe you can even use headrests from an LS or GS.

I contacted a factory friend who suggested using sem/sim paint since most of the supposed leather is a black vinyl that is painted with this paint at the various parts houses. Just have the body paint company match a piece of your original trim and then apply it with a foam roller. It will look exacly like its factory.

Behr paint from Home Depot. Be sure to buy the interior type latex might pick up a few extra rollers. Will be beautiful.

My dog basically destroyed my rear seats and i'm thinking of doing it as well. Got quoted NZ$250 for front and rear seats to be restored.

Get a complete kit from Leatherique. Absolutely the best for leather refinishing or color changes. It took me less than an hour to return a black steering wheel that had worn to grey ('93 ES300) to looking like a new replacement. Their products are available in the U.S. and Canada.

I always heard it was a bad idea to paint leather? I've seen SEM used on it, but that was just to paint it back to the original color.

^^ Yes/no. If its the 'right' dealer-only grade materials then the finish comes out great [as i've seen in the past].

Also painting is not a solution as it will not be as good, as say, re-dying the leather...
