I would make sure the oil level is up to the top line on the dipstick myself. And yes there is a difference, the difference is a little bit of oil.

I'm not clear what you mean by "75%". Take a look in your owner's manual for a description of how the oil level should read on the dipstick.

A one gallon jug of oil is not enough for a complete change (with a new filter). It should take almost 5 quarts.

There is no difference at all. The oil pick up tube/pipe thing in the pan will be completely submerged either way. You just don't want the level to be below the minimum mark. I usually keep mine at 3/4.

^ And only diesel oil comes in 4 quart jugs. All mobil 1 jugs from wal mart are 5 quart.

It does matter. A larger volume of oil means the oil will potentially run cooler. It also means it will take longer for the oil to become contaminated. A corrrect oil level also means a proper reserve for times when G forces slosh the oil about.

Well yes but I was talking about the difference between 3/4 and full. That is probably around 8oz of oil difference. The extra 8oz will make a very negligible difference, if any.

But you are correct about the G forces. It is better to have more in the pan when cornering.

This brings up a question. Let's say I filled it up to full on flat ground. I then check my oil level when my car is parked on a steep hill facing up. The level is about 2/3 or 3/4. I park on the same hill facing downwards. I check the level and it is quite a bit over full. It is never good to have it over the max...When the car is running going down a hill is it running with the oil overfilled?

OP it is your choice to add oil. Theoretically it is better to have more oil in the engine but it is not necessary by any means to have it at full.

The amount of oil in the crankcase is fixed, so it doesn't matter the angle of the engine. As long as the oil is getting drawn consistently into the oil pump, you're good.

A dry sump system is better if you do high G's or drive at extreme inclines. Plus the oil capacity can be as large as you want without worrying about the crank sloshing against the engine oil.

I'm sorry I doubted you. It just that I have never seen a 4qt jug of gasoline engine oil at that store. It must be different for WalMart stores across the country. On the west coast they only sell the 5qt jugs. That is interesting.

What is even more interesting it that is that your 4qt jug doesn't say "Recycle your used oil at your local WalMart." Our 5qt jugs do.

But I'm with you about WalMart. I hate that store too but you can't beat the prices on oil. But I get my filters at o'reilly. WIX filters.

The 1MZ engine calls for up to 5 liters with filter. It ends up being around 4.5 in my experience. So you need to add a bit of oil.

No worries.

No retail stores recycle oil around here that I know of, unless they did the change. New England is a little odd on waste, it's a weekend tradition that we all cram our stinky smelly garbage into our cars and take it to our local dump or transfer/recycling station. Each town has one. So, like our town, most accept used engine oil, so it's not a big deal. The problem is coolant, I have almost 7 gallons of it in my garage now and no way to get rid of it.

Fortunately I don't have to use my car for dump runs, I also have an old '87 Toyota pickup for that.

If you get a "Preferred Customer" account with Amsoil, it ends up even cheaper than WalMart Mobil 1, even with the shipping.

I love WalMart. They provide brand name products at great prices. It's been estimated they save consumers $2000 per year. What's not to like? If you don't like their products and service don't shop there.

The battery on my Lexus died two days after I bought it. Normally I buy a battery and put it in myself. For some reason I didn't want to deal with the hassle so I took my lexus to Walmart to get a new battery installed because they have good prices. When I went to pick it up they said no charge, the battery was under warrenty. How's that for service? I couldn't believe my luck. I'm sure the dufus who sold me the lexus knew the battery was bad but didn't know it was under warrenty.
