Need HELP car starts and runs dies when let off gas
Stopped by a friends house, as I was leaving my ES turns over and starts up but dies right away. If I leave my foot on the pedal it will stay running and dies right away letting off the gas. Any particular area I should consider looking into as the culprit? I will bring it in to a shop hopefully tommorrow but before I have to tow it there I wanted some opinions on things to look at. IAC I assume one, battery changed about 2 years ago. fuel filter changed about 6 months ago.
Thanks for any input.

I had a similar issue on our '03 ES after the battery died; the car forgot how to idle. What year is your ES, I'm guessing 3rd Gen? I've disconnected the battery on the '01 ES dozens of times without a problem.
I'm gonna guess it's either a bad battery or alternator.

Advice 1. Check code(s) 2. Investigate what the code(s) point to 3. Be VERY CAREFUL cleaning the IAC on the car. Better to remove it and clean it. I got into a mess of trouble shooting cleaner into the TB.
It sounds like the idle air path is not open, either the IAC is very clogged, the stepping 'motor' (actually a series of magnets) inside is not working properly, or there is a sensor problem, giving the ECU a false reading and not allowing it to open the IAC valve (that's the magnets inside) to admit idle air.
When you press the gas pedal, you're opening the throttle plate enough to compensate for the lack of idle air through the IAC, IMO.

Problem solved. It was the IAC as suspected. Throttle body was filthy looking inside, so I plan on removing that and cleaning it out shortly. I need to install my damn broken door handle first.
