This is a great write-up. I change my own oil as well. I like to use Castrol oil, Toyota oil filter part #90915-20004. Fel-Pro makes excellent oil drain plug gaskets as well...

Nice write up for those that actually do this stuff. I got the whole 'do your own work' out of my system in high school during shop class lol
Now my mechanic changes it for 40$... IMO making it not worth spending the 30 mins on the ground to change your own oil, drive to dispose of it, on top of spending for the oil & filter.

Here is what I want you to do. You need to overhaul your entire engine, but it's gonna take a major commitment from you. You're gonna have to keep it under 60 miles an hour for a while, you gotta come in and get the oil changed every thousand miles. Ok?

Very old thread....
I have done oil change on many vehicles and most Toyota/Lexus don't require to be jacked up or raised to have oil changed.
I just lay on the floor and reach in to reach the drain plug.

Gaskets
A friend of mine recently did an oil change on my car... It ended up leaking oil afterward. Previously, I owned a car which had a problem & leaked everytime I had the oil changed. On my other car, I found out it needed a certain gasket from the dealer...or something like that. You mentioned in your post, something about a gasket for the drain plug & also, you mentioned a gasket regarding the oil filter...are there two different gaskets then, when doing an oil change. Yes, I'm a girl & I'm trying to learn. I'm gonna have to fix it myself, so any & all info. would be greatly appreciated. Already, changed the drain plug gasket. It still seems to be leaking...help please? Thank you so much =) 1997 ES300 Lexus

The oil filter comes with a gasket already installed on it, all that needs to be done is that you need to lubricate the oil filter gasket with oil (used or new) and you do so by placing some on your finger and rub it around the gasket.
The drain plug gasket needs to be properly torqued down.

I Just bought a 2000 Lexus es300 Premium, low mileage, mint condition, diamond white with tan interior, factory chrome wheels, The previous owner must have known about the Toyota engine sludging issues, as included with the bill of sale was a folder of bills on all history of the service work and repairs..
.I went through them all and found bills for 29 oil and filter changes over 100,015 miles
