Cracked Rear Exhaust Manifold 97 Es Help??????
I have a 1997 ES 300 and the dealer said that the rear Exhaust Manifold was cracked.
They want $1500 and I got an estimate from a independent for $900.
Has anyone changed the rear and can give me some tip?
They said it's 8 hours of labor plus parts.
Can someone tell me if I can do it and how long it will really take?
Should I buy a new exhaust manifold? or get one from a salvage yard?
HELP??????????

Hmm, I havent changed one, but I changed my rear spark plug which was a B I T C H to replace.
Im guessing it shouldnt be that hard to do yourself, but you would need to take off the plenum/intake to get back there. Also you need to buy a gasket for the intake manifold and exhaust gasket.
Where is the crack at and how large? You may be able to get some to weld it for $200.
How was the crack diagnosed? Do you hear a strange sound coming from your engine, or on acceleration? I know intake/exhaust leaks can make weird noises.

Hey, Just make sure thats exactly what the problem is before you go spending alot of money. Should be fairly easy to replace and you could most likely reuse your metal gasket. Get one from a salvage yard or see if someone here has one. That price from the dealer and the shop sounds absolutely rediculous. But I guess not everyone is a mechanic so thats how they make their money. Good luck hope you get it fixed soon.
