Default I'm Back with 2 fully functional no-cel, no-odd noise ES300's =)

So if you guys were keeping up with my last thread, My 98 ES was making a horrible noise. Found out it was a cracked flywheel...

replaced it and now the car runs 100% fine. Within that time, my father and i found a replacement car for very cheap because it was making a very odd noise at idle after the motor warmed up and this is how it went after we picked it up:

There was a faulty catalytic converter, which in turn caused excessive back pressure and heat, and caused cylinders 2,4, and 6 (front bank) to wear out the piston rings. Result: Low compression.

Yeah, sweet. Glad to hear it worked out.

I hope you are keeping the 2000 for yourself? And maybe actually get a set of rims this time around!

Awesome job. Did you use the services of a machine shop at all? Are you a professional mechanic or just a hobbyist? Are those individual ignition coils? ie, distributorless? Just curious.

Congratulations but with your title "I'm Back with 2 fully functional no-cel, no-odd noise ES300's =)" you make it seem like it's rare to find an ES300 that's fuctional or without it making noises I'm just saying.

GL with the rest of your work!

What kind of engine do you have there? 2JZ? 3VZ? 1RAY?

Gratz on all the hard work, the positive results, and the 2nd car!

the only service i used the machine shop for was to clean the valves. the ones with bad compression had severe carbon buildup. so i got them bead blasted, $1 each =24 bucks lol

thanks! its on the road now and the 98 is up for sale. i think the main reason i chose that title is because my last thread mentioned the odd noise my 98 made, no harm on the ES's reputation

i grabbed it for 2300, but i had to go there and tow it home so it cost a bit more than that. parts and stuff added up, i dont even know what kind of labor charges i saved myself. it wasnt a fubar'd ES either, it ran, i think i woulda ran the car as is until i did the compression test. just after that, it really got me thinking

the car drives amazingly well, in relation to my dads 99 with the same motor, it has a noticeable amount more kick to it. it could be a result of me accidentally doing something right by polishing up the intake manifold and heads, but my dad got in the car and said, "Hey, my car doesnt do this" refering to the acceleration. we then proceeded to test the compression. all 6 of my pistons are at 165-170 psi and his have a better seal at 180-185psi. we will have to see how much of a difference my car has when the rings are properly seated...i cannot wait to put it to the floor =)

my next project falling out of my sleeve (with nothing to do with the car) is actually a central air unit, me and my father are approximately 70% done so as for now, the car is what it is..and i am very happy with that lmao (its so fast )

I like all the work you've done, looks great, but i have a question. Have any of your neighbors, or anyone for the matter ask you why you have 3 of the same car? haha
