Question 03 Lexus ES300 with code p0442

Hey fellow ES drivers. I actually own a 94 gs300 but I have a friend who drives an 03 Es300. her check engine light recently came on so I help her read the codes. she came up with an p0442 code? Has anyone come across this dtc? and how did you solve it? I know the gas cap could be the culprit but her gas cap wasn't loose. should I tell her to get a new oem gas cap and see if it might solve the problem? thanks to anyone that can help.

Default P0442 Emission Code

I just had to search for emission codes for my daughter's car, so I had the website up.

P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

Hope that helps!

You say purchase an oem gas cap? Did she just recently install the aftermarket gas cap prior to the check eng. light coming on? If so, by the code it is producing, I would install the correct gas cap. Cheal and I hope this helps.
