Default 97 es 300 AC problem

Hello guys. Lately I have been having AC problems. I showed it to my mechanic a couple of weeks ago. He charged the freon and it still didnt fix the problem.

So he thought that it might be the compressor so tonight he changed the compressor and the drier. He also charged the freon again. Now the only vent that blows cool air is the middle right vent on top of the radio head unit. The rest just seem to blow outside air.

The mechanic is saying that next step would be to change the expansion valve and evaporator which he said are under the dashboard and are a pain to get to. He wants $400 labor to do the expansion valve and evaporator. Does that sound fair or reasonable?

What do you guys think? Could the cabin filter cause such problems as I have never changed it and the car has close to 250k miles now.

Seek an auto A/C expert to get an appropriate diagnostic before anything else. Otherwise, your mechanic will keep throwing parts at it like an amateur. The expansion valve and the evaporator are good bets in your case, but I don't think you want to keep emptying your wallet trying to find the fix.
