Phil, sorry to hear what happend to you. I have 2000ES and been drain and refill at every 30k miles and did the complete flush at 90K at Toyota dealership and didn't have any problem. It is now with 140k miles and running great.

If you have done drain and refill frequently, I don't see an issue going with complete flush.

This thing was really annoying me, so I went back to the Transmission specialist that made the ATF mistake 2 days ago, and told him that he put the wrong ATF fluid in my car. He looked up the specs and agreed. He immediately told his mechanic to take my car inside, and to drain the ATF and replace it with Toyota T-IV.

So to summarize, by now I drained the Dexon III ATF twice. Once at the Lexus dealer yesterday, and a second time today at the garage that screwed up the first time. I now estimate that I still have about 15% Dexon III mixed with the Toyota T-IV ATF. Not good, but I suppose not too bad.

I'll change it one more time in about 3 Months. Hope all turns out well at the end,

Phil

I have the opposite concern with my ES. It uses Dexron (being a 2nd generation ES) so I always make sure that a "USE DEXRON ATF" notation goes on the work-order when I take my car to the Toyota dealership for a tranny drain and fill. You never know when the tech just might absent-mindedly pour in T-IV fluid cuz that's what he uses 99% of the time.

Maybe the fact that the same generation Camry uses Dexron ATF instead of T-IV fluid led the technician to assume that the ES would use the same stuff.
AFT-IV is fine in your tranny. It;s forward compatible. I've been doing drain and fills on my '96 using Toyota AFT-IV for over 2 years now.
