Default Question: Looking to buy ES300 but kinda worried

Hey everybody, I'm looking at purchasing a used 1997 ES from an owner.

http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/1711613076.html

The guy mentioned that the A/C relay fuse is gone and that it needs a new one. Also, he's looking to replace the IACV and ECU.

I'm going to take a look at it this afternoon w/ my brother & cousin. Both are mechanics. My brother's a Honda specialist, and my cousin's a Volkswagen/Euro ASE Master tech. Unfortunately, no one in the family is a lexus tech

Please look at the listing and let me know if it's a shady deal. He says he has maint records and that the mechanics he's seen give it a thumbsup, but I'm just going based on what he said.

Any advice/feedback is much appreciated.

Eph

You don't need to be a Toyota technician to look at it. Your brother and cousin should suffice.

I would be hesitant to buy a car from a guy who only got two cell phone pictures of it on the side of the road. Are you sure it's his?

he had more pics in a later listing.....this was his initial one.

But no engine bay shots, though he says there're no leaks.

I'm just making sure that I don't get screwed, so I'm bringing my bro & cousin.

Throughout the whole time I'm keeping contact w/ him, he seems rude & irritated (maybe because he's been flaked on or taking a loss for selling it..................or hiding something).

In any case, I'll be looking at it today, but I'll make my decision after talking w/ my cousin & brother and sleeping on it for a night.

I wish it came w/ the stock rims rather than the 19's

Before buying, get the VIN number and do a Carfax check.

Trust him if you want........But I'm partial to completely ignoring sellers and passing my own judgment, for reasons like this:

took a look at it.........not bad......all small fixes.......my cousin found that he had a transmission leak through the driveshaft seal.....yet another small fix.

I'm considering it, but I'm still looking around.........thanks for all the feedback so far
