Default Ticking Noise

My car jsut recently started to tick after I park the car. The car never ticked until recently, what could be the problem? And is there any solution to this that wouldnt leave a whole in my wallet.

i think that when the engineis new, its not heating up as much and expanding as muc when being driven. but after some time, the car wil start to cool off and contract. i remember hearing the ticking back on my dads 88 honda accord. nice little car that was, back then at least

All it is is the metal cooling down and expanding. It happens with every car after a long or short drive.

I just totally replaced my exhaust pipes to alleviate this major Lexus problem. Cost me $200, but gave me more power. Basically a cat-back exhaust. The reason it is ticking is because Lexus insists on stainless steel pipes. These do not give when heated. As the car cools off the exhaust pipes want to expand but the S Steel won't budge. Thus, the pipe connections start to bang against each other creating the sounds. AND it only gets worse with time. The solution is changing to aluminum pipes that will allow expansion. If you want pics pm me.

Hoops,

What you said makes no sense to me at all.

Aluminum expands and contracts at a greater rate than S/S

Just compare the CTE's of the materials.

yeah, aerodyne is right, that doesn't make sense. so you are also telling me that my dad's 88 honda accord that he had lots of years ago also had the steel piping. and so do many current american made cars, they would rather have the steel than alluminum?

speaking of funny noises....

everyonce in awhile (after I haven't driven it for about a day and a half) good ol' Lexo makes a kind of loud scraping noise about a second after I turn the engine on.

Sounds kinda scary, but it only happens after the car hasn't been driven for awhile... don't know how to explain that to my mechanic....

a second after turning the car on? can you explain further? like metal on metal sound, etc. if it is that soon after turning the engine on maybe its like a belt starting something up.
My car has been making funny noises too but i am pretty sure its the front struts telling me they're about to give away. i recently had my rear struts redone cuz they needed to be, but i didn't have the front done. i can hear the noise when going over a speed bump...or actually when recovering from the bump. it makes that creaking and swooshing noise.

When i went to a high-end speedshop in my town to check outcat-back system options, they were going to use the stock tail pipe because it's stainless steel. I don't see whyyou would have it replaced, and how it would make a ticking noise -- i figured it would be something much closer to the motor itself.

It's almost kind of a metal on metal grinding noise, after the engine has just kicked on. (like I said, it doesn't happen THAT much, in fact it hasn't happened in a few days)

Plus my rpms are a little high in park... is this normal ?
