Hi - can anyone confirm if it's possible to buy the software/cable to read your own check engine light codes (and a recommended place to get them)? the year of the car is 1994. i think based on the year that is supposed to help decide what kind of software (ob2?) is needed...?
any OBD2 reader will work for your '94. there is not a specific one that you need, as all the OBD2's are the same. As for recommending one, it all depends what you want to spend. you can get them as cheap as $15, or up to a couple thousand.

Well, while the parameters, or readings, required by OBD II regulations are uniform, the auto manufacturers had some latitude in the communications protocol they use to transmit those readings to scanners. I have one of those cheap (15 bucks) OBDII/USB clones made in China that works perfectly in my 94 Camry, but not in my 98 ES300. So if I were you, I'd give these Arizona guys a shot: http://www.scantool.net/ Their products are affordable, US made, and it seems to me that you can get technical support whenever you need it.
