Default New member......have a small question

Hi,

I just joined clublexus.com today, but I've been aware of the site's existence for about a year. Anyway, I have a question about my 1993 ES300 concerning the chrome wheels. Lexus did not officially offer chrome plated wheels as an option until the 1995 model year, yet my 1993 has them, and has had them since 1994, when we first got the car. (It used to be my mom's, now its mine.) The previous owners most likely did not install the chrome wheels either....they were an elderly couple in their 70's.

Interestingly, I've seen other 1993 ES300s with chrome wheels...I'm wondering if this was a factory option not listed by Lexus? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Yes I can let you know that they are not optioned on older cars. My '94 has them, but my spare in the trunk does not. When lexus gives you chrome wheels, your spare will be chrome also. even though they were an elderly couple, the chrome wheels were added after the car was bought. they may have bought it off the lot, then had some chrome put on because they liked it better.

oh yeah, 95 model year, was made in 94. so you could have gotten the wheels in 94 but been optioned for the 95 model.

How are they holding up? Are they messed up yet, or do you take them off in the winter time?

My wheels are also holding up quite well. The chrome is still looking great for the most part, but starting to chip in a few places. I may get them re-chromed sometime. Otherwise, I might just get a new set of alloys, no chrome. Given the chioce, I personally wouldn't have gotten the chrome wheels, because chroming weakens the wheels quite a bit structurally plus adds unsprung weight, which is bad for handling. They do look great on my car, though.

I'll be leaving my chrome on. I like the way they look right after I polish them and they are blinding. Mine hanven't begun to chip yet, but my next wheels will probably just be larger, no chrome. maybe black
