Default Advice needed on lower right control arm replacement

Greetings:

I have a 2003 ES300 with 165k miles with a right front noise that appears, after a lot of work, to be from the control arm. I am going to replace the control arm which will require removing the lower right motor mount to get access to one of the 22mm control arm mounting bolts. I am concerned about the correct way to raise the engine the small distance it will take to remove the motor mount. I have seen YouTube videos which show the engine being raised with a floor jack and a block of wood under the oil pan. Is this the best way to raise the engine the short distance required for this job?

Thank you in advance for your knowledge and experience,

Cordially,
Vic

Hello VicSWFL!
Having done what you're about to do I might suggest a few things. Yes, a block of wood (I used about a 6" 2x4) is the way to go. In addition you might want to completely remove the "dogbone" mount at the top passenger side of the engine. Also, it helps to loosen the top bolt on the front engine mount behind the radiator. By doing this it will allow the engine tor rise enough to remove the motor mount.
If you have not yet replaced your motor mounts now would be the perfect time to do that. I have replaced all 4 mounts with OEM and it made a world of difference in vibration transmitted to the passenger compartment. None. I watched a few videos before I did all that and learned a few tricks. They are outlined here in my writeup:

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you Korey,

Your technique of loosening the top bolt on the front motor mount and removing the "dog bone" are obvious, just not to me. That will make the removal so much easier. I don't think I'm in need of mounts as the engine doesn't move at all when tested. I'll probably do just the control arm and see how it rides. I know that sounds inefficient, but I'm a 77 year old retired guy who needs to find chores to keep me busy.

Thanks again,
