Default anyone changed thier amp?

i have the stock head unit with my car, and i like the way it looks, but i dun like the lack of power. i heard there was an amp under the passanger seat, and i'm wondering if there's a way to replace that amp with an aftermarket one.
i just replaced the speakers a couple days ago in the rear deck after discovering they were 1 way 15w pioneers. eww. i expected more. oh well...now i got infinity referance 6953i in the back. gotta change the front now. but ya, anyone got input with the amp?

whats the power comming from the exsisting amp?

Default Yeah

I have changed all of the speakers in my car too. Now my old factory amp is trying to push 100 and 130W speakers. Doesn't sound all that great. I sort of put this off, becuase I didn't have the money and because the speakers still sound ok, but I am going to get a 4 channel amp to wire my speakers to. Probably just bypass the amp, not replace it.

hey EGainer, i got an Infinity Basslink in my trunk right now, and i'm gonna return it. it isn't giving me the bass responce i wanted. is the sub just junky, which the internet says it's really good, or does my closed of trunk play a factor in it?
someone at a car audio shop here says a 10' kicker amp combo he'll hook me up with will be better than the the i got now. i hope it is. I NEED BASS!!!
i hella like my infinity referance 6x9 in the back.

Default Bass

tHE CLOSED TRUNK DOES PLAY A FACTOR IN HOW MUCH BASS YOU HEAR, BUT THE GOOd THING IS THAT THE BASS bounces off the walls and bounces back into the cabin. The basslink is not a good combo, it's only good if you have no room at all to put a system. otherwise, the kicker combo would be a little better, if you really want some bass, go for rockford, mtx, or audiobahn. dont worry about our trunks being soundproof, other cars pay extra to have dynamat put down which is basically already done to our trunks.

Talking

Too funny to see this response to a 6-year-dead-thread, but it did make me call up EGainer just to see what's going on. He's driving an '08 Audi A4 2.0tqm s-line. Nice!

He's still a Lexus fan and remembers the ES fondly.

We might need to fire up a "ES O.G.s - Where are they now?" thread like they have in the SC forum.

Yea I see, from April 02. I was still in high school then.

Oh well, and for the amp question; I don't how I had it wired now, but if you don't know, take it to a stereo shop and let them work on it. Don't break your car because of lack of knowledge, you'll regret it.

I think the amps have changed since I had mine 6 years ago. They are probably easier to install now. I had both my subwoofer amp and speaker amps in my trunk. Not the best looking install, but I was only 17.

Here maybe these will help, 2 pics of the same diagram. One with notes, although since I can't see the headunit anymore, they don't help me, but I still had them saved.

date on the second pic is tuesday, may 28, 2002

If you really want to be in for a treat you can get a XOVER and rewire everything i.e. Headunit to the XOVER, XOVER to your amp to speakers. By doing this you don't need to cut up the factory amp harness and can get it back to stock.
