1997 Lexus Es300 stock sub removal
I have upgraded my system to 2 10 inch subs. They sound good, but I wanted to remove the stock subwoofer attached to the back of the car, and stick the grill back on top. Has anyone done this yet. Does the sub come out easily or no. I know someone that took it out but it did not come out easily, and he needed to do some cutting

very simple to do. but one thing is the 3rd brake light/grill will not clip back in after the sub is removed. you can't tell and won't be a problem, but if you have loud subs and they shake your rear deck, every once in a while the grill/light will come out of place. i fixed this but cutting the cone and magent out of the stock sub, so you just have the frame and the grill/light can still clip back in.

mmm....okay so I have a dilemma. I use to have a 97 es300 and I just had the people who installed my 2 12s to disconnect the stock sub. I have a 98 es300 now and I have a little leak in my trunk. Soooo, I'm a little afraid that rain water will damage subs/amp if I get aftermarket subs. Is there anyway to add an aftermarket sub in place of the stock, using the stock amp. This is my commutor car and I don't have the 6-disc changer either, so I've been using a tape deck adapter and an iPod. I swear the radio sounds better. Helpppp!!!!!!!

Yeah, you can just take out the stock sub, and drop an aftermarket 8" in it's place. I've done that with a 8" Kicker, and it sounds cleaner and hits lower than the stock.
The only issue is that the clips for the third brake light are attached to the sub bracket, and might come loose without it, as posted above by Pyro.
