Default Car Valve Lifters? Trouble

so about a month ago i took my car for a routine oil job, replaced it drove it and started hearing a clacking noise. Drove it to a mechanic he looked at it and said it was something with the engine Tappets, Lifters.... i do not know anything about the engines, or any engine for that matter.

So the issue im having with it, it starts and runs, it will not run over 4k rpm's though, and i am only able to get it up to 40 mph and that takes it a little bit of time. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know

I'm told this is something extremely expensive. So if anyone has any advice or information regarding the engine whether or not to buy another car, please feel free to let me know...

So who "told you it was extremely expensive"? I think that maybe you should go back to the original mechanic and talk to him? Normally a valve adj does not cost very much.

well mark (mechanic friend of mine) came by yesterday evening, we pulled the valve cover off and he was looking around in the engine, and turns out it might not just be a lifter, valve thing or whatever those are called, it may potentially be a cam, or a camshaft. I feel so retarded when it comes to cars.

He did however mention that it could potentially get expensive, and also words like machine shop, and cry. I love my car, so it doesnt really truthfully matter to me but i wish it had just been something extremely easy to fix up. I do know that as soon as i get it running and i start my new job, the first thing im going to do is save up money for a new car.

I think it would be a good idea to take it to a independent repair shop that speciallizes in imports. Ask them for a estimate on what needs to be done, and how much. It sounds like your friend has good intentions, but needs a little more experience.

well hes the man for the job, he has been the one whos fixed my galant my moms impala, and worked on the lexus numerous times, its not he doesnt know what hes doing its me. Hes been a mechanic since before i was born lol. Im the idiot who doesnt know technical terms or even pay attention when someone tries to explain it to me, im all technology and no mechanic skills at all. I'd rather talk about system builds and overclocking cpu's and being uber nerd than cars. As soon as i am able to afford college i will be taking some classes though so im not a total douch
