Need instructions on cleaning EGR
'98 ES 300
I'm sure it's in here somewhere, but I can't find any instructions on cleaning the EGR valve. I took it off, and cleaned the pipe ports with a wire brush. Then I spayed carb cleaner inside and and tried to clean some more. The vacuum seems to work okay when I put suction on it. The part I can't see to really get to to clean is where the valve is. Somewhere I read to soak it overnight in Acetone. So I did rinse it in acetone, but read the label later and it said it was not good for plastic. So I didn't soak it. Hindsight, that wasn't a good idea. Well, I think the valve is not sticking nearly as badly as before, when I drive it. No more rough idle at all, and it's been a few weeks. But I still get a sudden drop in RPM's instead of a smooth drop when I let off the gas. Maybe this isn't a sticky EGR valve any longer, but something else. I am also wondering if the transmission might shift more smoothly if the EGR was fully cleaned, again, if that is indeed the issue here.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
