Default 1996 ES300 Excessive EGR Flow- Code 402

I have a 1996 es300 that has a code # 402 = Excessive EGR Flow. I had the EGR valve replaced by a Lexus mechanic, however after a few weeks, the check engine light came back on with the same code. I'm not mechanically inclined, but I can do basic work on my car. What can I do to troubleshoot this issue? What might be the problem? Thanks ahead of time.

your egr passages may have carbon buildup

best tool for that is usually a metal coat hanger

it's not basic work to address this, its more like intermediate to complex level. mostly if you have plenty of time and patience, shouldn't be hard. just use a fsm to guide you

Thanks, I'll try it when I get back in town next week. BTW, what is a FSM? Flying Spaghetti Monster?

FActory Service manual

if you want it for free, and youre searching around, just USE FSM

for example:
this site has a camry of 1996[so the engine element of repair would be the same]
and the body/ other stuff of 93 es 300 that would be the same as the 96 you have
http://www.turboninjas.com/camry/

It's located beside Egr valve.Take it off and suck on the bottom pipe .If you get air coming out it's not good,it should hold vacuum.
