Default 97 oxygen sensor Help...

97 oxygen sensor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bought a new sensor, put it in the front and found out i should have changed the back one. I got a bank 1 sensor 1. So I took the original one I took out of the front and put it in the back.

I still get the check engine light. I disconected the battery, the I took out the EFI fuse. Both times the check engine light went out. It's when i went to restart it the check engine light came back on.

Do I need to buy a new sensor for the back? The old one worked on the front.
Help?????????

Yes, then try disconnecting the battery to reset the codes

Before you changed the sensor, did you disconnect the ecm and ohm the harness out?

Are you sure that you replaced the correct sensor for the code that you have? And before replacing the sensor (especially bank 1 sensor 2) it is a good idea to disconnect the connector at the ecm, and measure the wiring harness (back to the sensor). You want to check if the harness is good. This is especially important with the O2 sensors since the harness is located in close proximity ot the exhaust. If the harness is not secured properly, it can be burned on the exhaust.

On my 97 es 300 bank 1 sensor 1 is next to firewall correct?
I put the new sensor in front and the check engine light still came on. S I put the one I took out of the front and put it in the rear (next to firewall). The check engine light still went on.

Do you think its in the wiring?

This tread is for P0430 code, is this the code that you have? If so then yes, you have replaced the wrong sensor. P0430 is a code indicating that the cat is not operating properly. It is for the post cat sensor.

Just got this CEL - PO430 - Catalyst efficiency below treshhold ( Bank 2 ). Its actually 2 of the same PO430 codes for some reason.... no other codes are present.

I get mixed information by doing search on the forum, some people say it could be a leak in the cat, bad catalytic converter ($$$$) or bad O2 sensor(s).

Damn i hope its not the cat (are there 2 catalytic converters on our cars?) It does not look like i have an exhaust leak.

1. it does not look like i have an exhaust leak. Although ill check that to make sure.

2. Which O2 sensor(s) should i check? And how do i check that they are ok?

3. If this is indeed catalytic converter then it will mess up my post cat O2 sensors if i keep driving like this, right? Which of 2 cats it could be, anyway to find out for sure?

Im hoping to do as much DIY as i can...

EDIT: found this -

so its either passanger catalytic converter or post converter passenger O2 sensor? can anyone confirm this please?
thanks!
Hi,
Follow the diagram below to find the Oxygen sensors. Remember, there are 2 air fuel sensor and 2 heat oxygen sensor. Very easy to change them. Good Luck.

Po430 code fix. I battled this for a month and came up with a good cheap fix. I had the po430 code on a 2002 IS300. The cheap fix is to tie both of the bank 1 & 2 sensor 2 input wires at the ecu to the bank one sensor 2 output at the ecu. I used one gold plated butt splice connector at the ecu plug. You must leave both sensors and wiring in place good or bad for the heater load and bank one o2 sensor 2 must be good. You can find the pin out wiring diagram online at o2simulator.com. I feel as though it is a design flaw that everyone over 100K will have to deal with. You can spend thousands on cats and o2's and labor or a 20 cent butt splice connector. Hope this helps everyone.
