Default Replacing purge solenoid??

Hey guys...my Mom just called me because of some warning light she got in her 2001 ES300 this morning. She had the codes pulled at a local AutoZone and they told her that it was her purge solenoid? I'm guessing it has something to do with the fuel system. Anyone know how to replace the part? Is it under the hood?

Thanks in advance

-Steve

Did they give u a code? Because most of the times the code doesnt necessarily mean the solenoid is bad, it could be something as simple as a vacuum leak.

Ask ur mom if shes put fuel in the car lately..most of the times that code comes on when the fuel cap is either loose or defective..it could also mean one of your vacuum hoses is leaking..i would check the fuel cap first and make sure the gasket inside isnt cracked or messed up cuz then you might need a new fuel cap if it looks ok try tightening it and the CEL should reset itself after a couple of miles.

Ha...that was actually the fist thing that I told her. She swears that she tightened it, but she was going to check it again. It could be defective....who knows? Thanks

Charcoal canister is a common thing. You might as well buy it at a Toyota dealership just cross reference the part number that will save you a few bucks. I have to change mine and I was told like $280 and it comes with that valve that sits on top. You should be able to do this yourself, several good write up here. GL

Having problems passing smog. When I first had a code it was P0446 and I ended up replacing the computer and ingnition, recently drove it to reset the computer and now I have a pending code of P0440? Any recommendations??? Was thinking of replacing the charcoal canister but not 100% sure that's what the problem is. Please help!!
