Default Valve cover Pan Gaskets.

Hello Fellow CL memebers. I have a 97 Es and I am going to Replace the Valve cover gaskets my Self for the first time. I have seen it Done many times before on my previous Lexus's I have owned. My questions is can Anyone Tell me how many lbs.do I need to tourqe the Bolts? I ran accross the Specs before and now I cant find them. Also , When I revmove the "Plum Intake" on top of the Engine ,do those bolts also need to be torqed?

you're using funny terms for these parts that I've never heard before

All of the bolts are supposed to be torqued to spec. Particularly the upper intake manifold bolts [I think you're calling it a plum intake].

Maybe you can find someone to help you and maybe you can find the FSM [hint: search]

its called an intake plenum, not plum...
the VCG job on the 1mz-fe is pretty easy if you just follow the factory service manual to a tee, and you take your time...be sure to properly seat the gasket in place and torque all bolts to the spec in the manual.
while your at it, change the spark plugs if needed because the rear bank is much easier with the intake plenum off.

Toddpa332 - good luck with the job. If you so kind, it might be worth it to do a write-up of what you did.

Thanks for the Replys. Sorry for the Terms I used. I tried searching to find out the torqued specs but the search engine does not agree with me. Does anyone know the Torque specs for the Valve pan covers and Intake plenum ?

torque.doc

Here are the specs that I found. Remember that cleaning the mating surfaces is more important than the exact values that you torque these fasteners down. If you go a little deeper into the engine, the torque values then become much more important.

Intake manifold: 32ft/lbs
Valve cover: Couldn't find anything specific in the FSM - elbow torque it! (make it snug, but don't break a bolt!)

my two cents on the valve cover tightening... valve cover is 5 ft lbs... but going by feel is going to help more due to thread deterioation, dirt, and those rubber spacers.... remember to criss cross torque it...

Yeah, I was putting the head back on my Altima, and mistook the camshaft saddle torques - it said 15 - but it was IN/LBS, not FT/LBS - snapped one off, and then I double checked the torque specs!!!

on the es 300, 3vz-fe, the camshaft bearing torque is 12 lb*ft and there's a specfiic order to follow when torqueing them
