Would this cause any problems? I'm gonna be putting in a fairly heavy stereo system which will drop the back end of the car a little. Could I drop the front 1.6" and leave the back springs stock? Would this have any negative effects beyond that caused by the added weight?
L_Sport, that drop is a perfect fit; where did you get your stuff and how much did it cost?

Fist of all Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front! Don't just lower the front!
Ok secondly if you have your stock rims you will be ok, they will tuck in the wheel well. If you want to go with 18's you might be able to get some 18's that tuck, ask LOBO he has had tuns of wheel set ups on his ES, but I wanted to make sure and not rub my tires so I had my inner fender lips shaved off in the back for $40 bucks and a 6 pack of beers at my homie's body shop. I can put anything in the back and take any bump and no rubbing.
Thirdly if you want the back higher you can go to PepBoys and buy spring spacers for $10. These are rubber spacers that lift your suspension by being placed in you springs while the car is lifted by a floor jack then when you let it down the springs compress down on them and will not go as low as before you can use any combination of spacers to get the height you want. I would recommend this simple solution before lowering the front only. There would be to many cons to mention and to many pros just to have a nice fully balanced sports suspension. Remember your biggest gain in a lower suspension is handling not just the look! Dropping the front wouldn’t give you a balanced suspension, as I said before suspensions are a very complicated and perfected art or all professional racecars would just cut there springs or lower the front.

Thanks for clearing that up, I'm basically a newbie to suspension mods but want to do this right. I'll probably try to keep weight down as much as possible, use birch and fiberglass instead of MDF where possible and hope it works out right, but the rubber spacers sound like an easy fix if I need to lift the back a little. So those spacers don't have any effect on the performance?
I'd gathered from reading here that 225/40/18 tires on a wheel with proper offset wouldn't have rubbing problems, even with the drop. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I'll get the fenders taken care of if need be, but it would be nice to not have to.
