Go onto ebay, and lok for used trans from japan. In japan they have to replace the engine and trans at around 60k, and they send them over here. You can pick up a good low milage unit real cheap. I have used them several time without any issues.

Those guys at JDM are legit. I know it is hard for most people to believe that the Japnese have such strict laws on their auto registration, but it is a fact. You can pick up cheap engines, and trans for almost nothing. At $350 for a trany, and a few more bills to install you will be happy with the results. If the car is good otherwise, I would not write it off.

oh another thing ive noticed while limping the car around. throwing the Pwr swich on helps a lot and the tranny slips only after say turning out of a parking lot, or making a U-turn never going straight or in reverse. also when the trans itself is cold first is just useless unless pwr is on and is warmed up.

Spend the 350 and get the used one from Japan. That's what I would do. Definitely worth the investment!!! Hell. For that price might as well throw a new engine on top and you have a barely used 192k Lexus (interior excluded). LOL!

you might want to check this out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-97...mZ270279822793
it should say right above the search bar, to the right of ebay motors, "Microsoft Cashback 30%". so that'll give you an additional 30% discount once you buy it. there are some conditions applied, but hell, that's good money.
if it doesn't show, go here first: http://www.live.com/ and type in cheap ps3. right under the search bar you will see a sponsored link. this is probably the only time you actually want to click that link. it will take you to ebay and show you ps3's and have the "live link" for the 30% discount. read terms and conditions, search for es300 transmission, find the one you want, use buy it now, save 105!!! saving money FTW!! oh, and don't forget to sign up for a free live.com account so you can get your money. GL!! Hope this helps.
