98 ES300 Strut Tower Conrol Arm ? Newbie
Just registered and new to the form. Did lots of searching before posting this question.
I have a 98 ES300 with 130k miles on it. I heard the ?typical clunking from right front end going over bumps and my Lexus mechanic says that its the Strut Towers and control arms worn & need replacing. On searching this forum that looks about right & ?typical.
I live on West Side of Los Angeles & my santa Monica Lexus dealer wants $1400 for this repair. I am not sure it is worth it in this car w/ trade-in value of about $5500.
Does anyone know any good mechanics that work on Lexus suspension problems like this and could it be brought in more cheaply so that it might be worth doing?
car runs well otherwise although now going over bumps it bumps really harder than my other sportscar now.
also the engine warning light is on for a transmission solenoid...but that is another search/post away.
Big thanks for helping a newbie

It's your upper strut mount. No more than a C-note for the part. If you can get a hold of a spring compressor, you can do the repair yourself. That's what happened to me on my '98. Replaced it and now no more "clunking" sound.

would it?
It just started off as a clunking noise when going over bumps but now my car rides really rough over bumps and the ride is harder than my sports car. It wasn't like that before?
