ok guys, thanks for the info! My light started blinking as well and AC stopped working i pulled the relay out it says: 90987-02022. I went to auto zone and got replacement AC relay recommended for 2002 ES300 - BWD/Intermotor Relay # R6034 (20$ including tax), the number on the replacement relay says 90987-02028. Last digit is different! It still worked , i just find it interesting how numbers do not match.

thanks again.

Default been there done that no effect

I tried that maneuver as per the same advice to me a year ago - some guy at Japanese Auto Care in Rancho Bernardo, CA told me he could fix it - $100 down the drain, still needed a new compressor.

I just bought a new one... But I saw mine was stuck and squealing.

250$ for a brand new OEM unit from Rockauto, when it was supposed to be rebuilt - a nice surprise.

Smile ES300 AC light blinking

This may have already been answered however of all the research I have done the underlying problem seems to be the Magnetic Clutch Relay. The old part number is 90987-02022 it is located in the engine compartment in the fuse box on the driver's side. The repacement part number is 90987-02028. You can find the replacement part by ordering it online through Auto Zone; $14.99 plus shipping and applicable sales tax. I hope this helps and more importantly helps those afflicted with this problem save you a lot of $$$

Default relay location

I found a good web site with diagrams showing where all the relays and fuses are located.

Default Self diagnostic

My 93 has an A/C diagnostic trouble mode that is entered by turning on the ignition while holding down the AUTO and FAN-DOWN-Arrow V. It spits out a code on the climate control display? that can be looked up. Covers many hard to diagnose problems like damper failure and such. Is this available in the newer versions? (originally discovered in the Factory Service Manual)

Default magnetic clutch relay

My ES300 also had the blinking AC light that indicates that the AC is not on. I ordered a replacement relay but since I have 30 plus years of electrical engineering experience and because it got hot in Florida I tested the relay. It had a resistance of almost 200 ohms when ON instead of close to zero, indicating that the contacts are oxidized or pitted. I cut off the side of the plastic and jiggled the contacts, the contact faces are not directly accessible. The resistance dropped to near zero and the AC is now working. This of course is a temporary solutions and as soon as the relay arrives I will install it.

Just got an 02 ES300 that had the same problem. Got it all fixed up with the new relay. O'Reilly switched manufacturers for the part though. New part number is 25-0137 made by Import Direct. Also does not have a lifetime warranty anymore, just a 1 year. The new part is $12.99. They were also able to look it up by the 90987-02028 part number. Just thought I'd pass this new info along.

Default 2002 es300 a/c light blinking

My 02 ES300 was doing the same thing at 109k miles. Luckily I found this thread and was able to fix it by replacing the mag clutch relay as posted in this thread. I orderd it from rockauto.com it was 9.99 + shipping $2. Looked it up on their site cross referencing the 90987-02028 number. Thanks guys. Now if some one knows how to get my NAV DVD out of the player, my car would be good as new.
Thx.
Oh by the way it's been over a week and it's been working just fine. Going on a long drive today and will update this thread if it didn't fix the issue.
I would also be curious to know at what mileage these relays are failing. Just getting the poll.

I'm heading straight to Autozone once I get off! I wonder if this is the same problem associated with the problem I'm having in my GS. For $10-$20, won't hurt to try.

ES, I couldn't get my disc out of the nav when I slid the cover over, either. It wasn't until I took the nav unit out of the trunk and slid the cover over, that I saw a rubber EJECT button behind the sliding cover. Have you already tried that? I never had any idea that there was a button bheind the cover; I thought that the disc was supposed to eject when you slid the cover.

Sorry, if you've tried this already.

Hope I can get some good advice on this subject.

Have the same issue with the A/C light blinking, swapped the relay with one from O'Rielly, A/C stays on longer but still trips the compressor off. I can reengage the compressor by pushing the "Auto" button but it only works for about 5-10 minutes. Outside temp is 104.

Default A/C light blinking

You may be low on refrigerant. There is a sight glass in the return tube. Check whether there are any bobbles. It is easy to add refrigerant for about $15.
