'97 ES300, blower motor only runs on really low speed
NEED HELP ASAP! Have a 1997 ES300, last night blower motor fan switch stopped controling the fan speed. Now it only runs on the very low speed, but it is running.
What could be my problem, love this car but want heat to work.
All heater control lights are on, A/C compressor will come on, I can hear the system working just can not get the fan to blow at different speeds.
Any help or ideas appreciated.

I had the same problem on my 97 ES last summer on just about the hottest day of the year. I removed the blower motor and cleaned it with a can of air spray and checked all the wires. It has worked just fine ever since, I didnt have to replace anything. The removal took me about 45 min and it only took15 min to put back together. I had to take off the glove box and a few other little things. The Haines repair manual shows how.
I looked at prices for a new motor and lexus wanted around $180 just for the motor and a couple hunderd for labor, toyota wanted around $160 for the same part, and there were some places online that had it for less than $100. Good luck, hopefully you can fix it yourself.

Here are a couple of things that I have noticed in 92-96 Toyota Camry's. When only certain speeds of the blower fan worked, it was due to the blower resister going bad. I believe that the blower resister sits on the passenger side under the dash. Don't quote me on that
In regards to blower motor noises, it depends on what type of noise it is. It could be due to foreign materials being stuck in the blower wheel. I have seen blower motor wheels stuffed with air filter material, insulation, plastic wrappers and even a dead rodent.
I used to be a Service Advisor at a Toyota dealership and these are some of things that I saw.

Just took my '97 ES to a neighborhood independent mechanic because of this problem. (Heater & A/C works fine, just does not go to high speed). He called to tell me that a module needs to be replaced, which is special order from Lexus. He said the module is not easy to get to, so the total cost of repair would be $456. As a result of this quote, I did not have the work done. Does anyone know of a local repair person in the Redondo Beach, CA, area, that could perform this repair? Any ideas on what the total cost should be? Thank-you for taking the time to respond.
