he probably used VHT Nightshades. It's a transparent black (smoke) spray paint that you can buy for about $10 a can.

yep i used VHT Nightshade...i just tape around da signal lights and sprayed about 4 coats ..no sanding or clear coat needed

Why didn't you do the reverse light? Black it out and it will look fine. You might run into problems down the road since you didn't wetsand, or it will turn out just fine in the long run. Some more pics would be cool too.

this was my idea but i wanted to black it out from the inside after baking the lens apart

I think i would look 10x better if u finish blacking out the reverse lens
