Code Issue (trac off and check engine light)
Hi everyone,
Just making sure I need a new o2 sensor. I had my car checked by autozone and he said it was coming up as a catalytic deficiency code. the trac off and chk engine light stays on together. I own a 99 es300. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably a P0420. And that could indicate a bad O2 sensor or as it is a deficient catalyst code that the code itself is bad.
Sometimes, after resetting this CEL, the code goes away and could have been to oddball conditions (weather, acceleration/deceleration).
P0420 is QUITE COMMON in Mexico given the quality of the gas here. An exhaust shop I frequent has a gas analysis machine so one can tell the difference between a bad cat and a bad O2 sensor.
