anyone? just take a dime and use it to pop the fob apart and look and see what kind/how many batteries are in there

pretty sure its supposed to be a cr2016 but mine only had one in there and 90% of cars that i've seen that use the 2016 use 2 batteries instead of one

You are correct - it is a CR2016 for the 98 ES300.

( I only have one in there, and have never seen a '98 fob w/two batteries. )

Yes, it should be the CR2016, but only one battery for my `97 ES remote.

FWIW, my 98 is the same - very poor range. I've replaced battery several times, and cleaned the contacts inside, with no improvement. Makes me wonder if the fob is fine and the maybe problem is on the CAR end - I wonder where the car's receiver is for that signal. ........

That seems to be pretty normal. I only can get like a 20ft range with mine.
