Default How to Remove your Stereo Unit

I am adding a few more pictures on how to remove your stereo unit. I found it quite easy to remove as i needed to take out the unit so I could place a band expander on the back of the Stereo as I could not receive all radio channels due to the car being imported from japan and the radio only ever picked up one radio channel.

Here is the first part

First you have to remove the air vent as shown in the picture below. Inside the air vent you shall find two clips (bottom of the vent). You have to push these clips down with a screwdriver to release the Stereo unit. When the clips pop out you then have to carefully pull the air vent out. Also the air vent is a little tight.

Then you hav to undo the screws below the stereo... this is covered by a black plastic strip... this pops off with a bit of a tug

Give your stereo a tug and out she pops... you may have to jiggle a bit as the brackets get in the way a little

Here is a shot of the side of the stereo

Once the stereo is out you will have a lots of room to play with.

TIP: make sure you place a cloth on top of your walnet console.. or you may scratch the wood effect by your transmission lever. As you can see here i did not.. but i did soon after i realised that it was make a scratch

It might sound a little scary removing the system without breaking anything but honestly it was quite a simple job. Just dont get too heavy with a screw driver.

I can say it took 10 mins to pull the stereo unit out and 3 minutes to put the stereo back. The only thing that messes up is that the clips on the top of the vent fell out and landed somewhere under the condole... I lost the clips.. but becuase the vent is so tight I never bothered to replace the clips... and I dont get any vibrating noises when driving.

Have fun...

bit difficult as i have placed the vent back on..

get a torch and look inside the vent.. you will see two little metal clips.. push them down... they will pop off but you can place them back on when you goto refit the vent. The hardest part is pulling the vent out... it is tight but just wiggle it out and it will pop out...

There will be a cable attatched to the vent.. but it will give to enough cable to be able to access the screws with ease.
